My Obsession…
…is now my profession.
It has long been my dream to be an entrepreneur. You know, set my own hours, be my own boss, work in my own home office, the whole enchilada.
It’s a lovely concept, but it only works if you are actually making m-o-n-e-y at what you are doing. Well, at least making more than you are spending, right?
I crochet. A lot. I love it, I think about it all the time (as in dreaming up new designs for things that hopefully, are chic and fashionable and not kitschy.) (Not to mention down-right cute!) This is the Rose Petals Spring Sunhat that I recently designed. And of course that’s my sweet little supermodel Josie!

Lately my lovely hubby has realized that my little hobby does have some real potential for profit and he has agreed that I can now stop sending out all those blankity-blank resumes. *HaPpY dAnCe* This one decision has moved me from being unemployed to being self-employed. (What a difference a day makes!)
Actually, I’m not completely self-employed. I do work part-time at Loops Yarn Store (as previously mentioned,) and there I teach classes, give private crochet lessons, offer free coaching and advice as needed, crochet models for the store, design new patterns and fondle yarn to my hearts content. (Yes. I did say fondle.) It is truly inspiration overload every time I walk in the door. (And a constant struggle to fight the urge to buy.more.yarn.) Click here to see a schedule of our classes. I’m on there.

I mean really. Who can resist something this delicious?
Of course, I don’t have the delusion that there aren’t hundreds of people just like me out there, designing crocheted things, writing crochet patterns and books and getting completely Etsy-fied. But that’s OK. I believe there is room for me in this pond and there are people in my world that will (and do) like my things and buy them.
In fact, I do have an Artfire shop online. (I chose to go with Artfire instead of Etsy.) It’s a nice little Artfire shop, but it sits rather empty at the moment. Why? Because the things I’ve made for the last 2 years have flown out the door to their new homes as fast as my little hooks could produce them. But now…oh now things can be different. Now there is no more 8 to 5 job demanding my undivided attention. Now I have time…time to do the thing I love and make a meager adequate substantial(?) income doing it.
I’ll admit, I’m still in the honeymoon stage with my newly acquired freedom and I have a LOT to learn, but finally, finally this boat is headed in a direction of my choosing and I like that a lot! (Teddy likes it, too!)
